What is this?

Insight meditation, also referred to as vipassana, is an ancient meditation practice involving the development of an awareness of body and mind through the cultivation of equanimity, self-reflection, and insight. This form of introspective practice assists the meditator in developing a deeper understanding of the world and themselves, by perceiving the interrelatedness of mental, physical and emotional states. Through mindful attention to the present moment, practitioners are able to develop a heightened level of awareness and acceptance of oneself, others and the environment. Ultimately, such meditation gives one the capacity to become conscious of, and eventually free from habitual mental and physical reactivity and cultivates insight, calmness and clarity.
