What is this?

Social justice is a concept that addresses the principles for a fair and just society. It seeks to ensure that everyone has equitable access to the same opportunities and resources, enabling them to participate actively in the social, economic and political systems of a country. Social justice strives to ensure that all individuals are treated equitably and without discrimination, regardless of their social or economic standing. It also seeks to empower and equip members of disadvantaged and marginalized communities so that they may participate more fully in the decision-making processes of society. This can range from both distributive and structural justice: distributive justice focuses on fair distribution of resources and opportunities; while structural justice sees power and social structures being altered and reformed, in order to promote greater fairness. Ultimately, social justice is a holistic approach to responding to, challenging and tackling the root causes of social inequalities.
