What is this?

Sensory deprivation, or sensory isolation, is the deliberate reduction of stimulations from the environment and one’s own body. It typically involves limiting the inputs of sight, sound, touch, taste, and even smell, either through intentional meditation practices or containment in an isolated chamber or tank. This practice can provide a profound psychophysiological experience which can be used as a therapeutic tool as well as a means to gain insight into the complex nature of human consciousness. When done correctly, sensory deprivation can help to reduce stress, anxiety, and enhance creativity and relaxation.
