Rapture ideology is a theological doctrine that believes in the imminent return of Jesus Christ, culminating in the end of the “great tribulation” and the resurrection of the just. It is rooted in the Christian belief that human salvation is only possible through belief in the second coming of Jesus and that all those who follow His teachings will ascend to Heaven at the time of His return. Rapture ideology is often conflated with dispensationalism, a systematic belief system via which Biblical societies have organized themselves and interpreted their mission statements over time. Depending on one’s stance, some argue that the rise of Rapture ideology weakens the true mission of the Church by overemphasizing the end times, while others view it as a form of sacred activism that remains vital to Christian belief and practice.
