What is this?

Open Source is a model of development in which software code, and the associated rights to use, study, modify, and redistribute that code, are made available to all stakeholders in the development process. It shifts control of the development process away from commercial interests and towards a decentralized, collaborative, and open collaboration between creators and stakeholders. This model of development allows external developers to modify, reuse, and experiment with open source software, encouraging innovation, problem solving, and self-directed learning.
